Equinor Energy AS has received consent from the Norwegian Offshore Directorate to connect the Troll B platform in the North Sea to the Kvitebjørn gas export pipeline. This new tie-in is part of a broader initiative to maintain stable natural gas production in the coming years.
Previously, Troll B utilized gas injection to support oil recovery, but injection is no longer required. The surplus gas will now be redirected for export via a 2.45 km connection to the Kvitebjørn pipeline, enhancing export flexibility. Troll B will now be able to export gas through both the existing Troll A route and the new Kvitebjørn connection.
Located 60 km southwest of Sognefjorden in water depths of 300–330 meters, the Troll field comprises two main structures: Troll East and Troll West. Until now, gas from Troll B (part of Troll East) not used for injection was exported exclusively through Troll A to the Kollsnes processing facility.
The investment for the new gas export solution totals approximately NOK 1.16 billion, with the tie-in expected to become operational in Q4 2025.
Equinor operates the Troll field with a 30.5% stake. Partners include:
Petoro AS (55.9%)
A/S Norske Shell (8.2%)
TotalEnergies EP Norge AS (3.7%)
ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS (1.6%)
